The first report arrived, written by the youngest Show member "R.G. Hunt, 8 years old"

the King of the Doghouse

photo Kylee Hartmann

 and his Mom "Debbie Hunt".

They have had a 2 day drive "2400 miles" from "North Carolina" to "Texas".

Alex and RG with Runa on the way to Texas

Russel and Debbie Hunt

after sitting such a long time in the car, the kids enjoyed playing..!

RG never has shown a dog. Because his "Big sister" showed Runa Janin Ranc, he has choosen Ulka for the competion "Child and Dog".

Finally RG did so good, that he was the winner in this competition.

His father, who wrote the Diplomas was proud about his son.

The dog show for us was a great learning experience. You could learn all kinds of things that you should do, when or if you are in a professional dog show. Such as how to let the judge see your dog while you are walking; how your dog should look, by body fat, and how to communicate with your dog and also how your dog listens to you while there are dog distractions all over the ring.

It also teaches you to watch the other dogs incase there was something wrong about the dog that you should learn. Then you can learn things from the dogs as well as the judge.

The judge always wants to see the dog and how the dog lookswith body composition, it's coat, the ideal proterntial of the dog. The judge takes his time with each and every dog to share everything you need to work on with your dog and how the "perfect" dog of the breed should look; from teeth, head/nose/ ear size, body composition and fur type. The knowledge of the judge should show you everything about your dog from head to paws.

This expieence has shown me, how to prepare myself and my dog for a show. It shows me, how my dog should walk/run around the ring and yet again you can still learn from  fellow contesants as well as the judge again.

Dog show visiting is fun, mostly with a "Slovensky Cuvac". And even, it is not my own dog!

I would recommend any friend to have a "Slovensky Cuvac in a dog show and in their lives.

RG Hunt, 8 years old written with the help of Mom Debbie!

Dubina Rose died 6 years old!

She has had cancer!

Hopefully the other SC out of Kennel Rose don't follow her with this illnes!

March 20.2009

found Bela Bateman

Bela Bateman out of Flok Kazan Janin ranc and Asta Stastny pes; born 2002

and as a grown-up

Thanks for contacting me...I'm very impressed with the work you are doing. When we were first considering a SC, it was very difficult to find information in English. Your website is a great resource!

Bela was from Josef's first litter, born December 7, 2002. Her parents were the only two SCs that Josef had at that time (male-Flok Kazan Janin Ranc; female-Aida Stastny Pes).

We registed Bela with the CKC in 2003.

I have Bela's registration certificate, as well as those of her parents.

She was an amazing dog, so intelligent and connected with us. My husband and I believe that Bela thought we belonged to her and she was looking after us, instead of the other way around, like most dogs. We have several pictures of her; I will attach a few for you.

We were devastated when we had to put her to sleep; she was mentally alert and fine, but suffered from knee problems...we don't know if this was genetic or from slight injury during too rough play with other dogs when she was young. In Dec 2006 she had surgery to repair what was basically a torn ACL in her left back leg. Then in Dec 2007 while playing with our neighbor's dog, she tore the ACL in her right back leg. She could barely walk and after consulting with our veterinarian, we knew that she would not be able to heal from another surgery. It was one of the hardest things we've gone through. We got her a few months before we were married, so she was our baby. When she died, Bela weighed around 125 pounds and when she looked eye to eye with my husband, she was close to 6 feet tall. When she died, it took our other 2 dogs several months to get over her not being around...even our neighbors' dogs were affected. It seemed like everyone was mourning her.

I do not have much more information from Josef. He was very helpful when we purchased Bela from him, but we have not contacted him since then. While we would like to have another SC, now is just not the best time. We have a 1 year old daughter and 2 dogs (Lab & Bernese Mountain dog).

Please let me know how I should register with your site. Good luck with the upcoming event...having 15 SCs together is the USA is quite an accomplishment. Just out of curiosity, how many SCs do you know of in the US?

He is a wonderful male with a great pedigree; his x-ray photos was taken by "Dr. Annette Thomme", Altenaffeln and the final check was made by "Dr. B. Tellheim" University of Giessen. RESULT: x-ray 0-0.

Ghandi was born in Germany; the breeder never got a pedigree for Ghandi, the Club CSC e.V. went in court against the breeder. It seems, last news... the CSC e.V. lost the trial against the breeder.

Now Ghandi has a pedigree! Take a look to the inside of the pedigree

Dec. 30. 2008

The new T-Shirts have arrived!

There are two different types:

The first is screen-printed with the Club motif and the webaddress;

At the moment only in dark blue with white printing in size S-XL.

Price: $ 19.00 plus mail (xl is $3.00 more)

The second style is embroidered.

The Club motif is in front and the web address is on the left arm.

Colors: Red, black, darkblue!

Size: s-XL

Price: $25 plus mail (XL $3 more)

We all take our dogs out and each time people are delighted to see the dogs and ask a lot of questions about the breed.

But mostly they are confused and can't pronounce the name Cuvac.

Some ask: Is this a Kuvasz? Or,  is this the Italian dog?

After fifty times answering questions, we get tired and accept other peoples' opinions.

Now after wearing the T-Shirt they can read the breed name.

And a lot have visited our website.

NEW!!! Males for breeding in USA

New X-ray results 09.2008

Ghandi vom Sassenburger Blockhaus a grown-up male x-ray 0-0, a wonderful male in Type and pigmentation! He just arrived.

Polo Janin Ranc has excellent hips, owned by: Guy Ford, CO

Polo: theeth, pigment, fure and temperament great!

A new male for breeding in USA, living in CO, imported Oct. 2007

Anton Janin Ranc at the moment no information about x-ray. 1 litter!

Ando Janin Ranc no information about x-ray!

Flok Kazan Janin Ranc,  2 litters no information about x-ray!

and his son Bundas Mika no information

Breeding with SC in USA - we will follow the rules of Europe/FCI -AKC!

It is very important to prepare your SC for breeding!

X-ray: hips if possible ith the Pennhip system!

We prefer a x-ray after the Penn Hip system.

Table without anesthesia x-ray are never as accurate than a Penn Hip.

With 24 months OFA accept the pictures for offical x-ray results.

Penn Hip earlier.

The vet can take x-ray pictures of the hips and ellbow and after sending it to OFA the offical result will be done. We need always copies of all paperwork, to fill in everything into your pedigree.

If you have questions, about x-ray, DNA etc is written in the booklet published by STDCOA.

Hip Grades

The phenotypic evalution of hips done by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals falls into seven different categories. Those categories are normal (Exellent, good, fair), Borderline, and dysplastic (Mild, Moderate, Severe). Once each of the radiologists classifies the hip into one of the 7 phenotypes above, the final hip grade is decided by a consensus of the 3 independent outside evalutions.

Example would be:

1. two radiologists reported exellent, one good- the final grade would be excellent 2. One radio;ogist reported excellent, one good, one fair- the final grade would be good

3. One radiologist reported fair, two radiologists reported mild - the final grade would be mild.

The hip grades of excellent, good, fair are within normal limits and are given OFA numbers.

The information is accepted by AKC on dogs with permanent identification (tattoos, microchip) and is in the public domain.

Radiographs of borderline, mild, moderate and severely dysplastic hip grades are reviewed by the OFA radiologist and a radiographic report is generated documenting the abnormalradiographic findings.

Unless the owner has chosen, the open database, dysplastic hip grade are not in the public domain.

Also the vet has to test

- the teeth (scissor? complete?),

-5th toe,

-eyes,

we also need:

Picture of: Head with eyes, ears, lips, (pigment) body and furs, Paws - nails and bottom,  ..

the height and the weight.

A list of the heat of a female and the certificate, that a male is clean.

America is too big, so no breeding expert can take a look personal to your dog!

The Club can prepare the breeding license/best relationship between the dogs..

We will check the pedigree of male x female.

About breeding and raising puppies there is a to do list with forms in the booklet of STDCOA.

Puppies registering: a picture of each one with name; we will sent the Tatoo  or you use a Chip from your vet and pedigree.

If your dog has success at shows, even in United States or Europe, please inform me, so we can take these over into the pedigrees. ( alsways remeber at a show, ( you have to take the pedigree with you), to get a Stamp and showresult notification into your origin pedigree.

Copies of the show cards are helpful. examples of a European card!

We have prepared forms for you!

We will register each SC puppy (pedigree of the parents is required)or grown - up in the STDCOA and FCI.

Dognames/Litter: The first litter all names start with A second with B and so on following the Kennel name.

If you are breeding two different breeds, perhaps A spaniel B Slovensky Cuvac, C Shephard etc.

In 2008 we started again with registering the SC.

All our dogs and all our litters ,  will be registered bySTDCOA/ F.C.I.

All SC can be registered in the Club and also at FCI , if they have 3 generation pedigrees. New: please register your SC with AKC!!! The Club will be helpful to fill out the forms.

We are planning to visit the Memorial Prof Hruza, 40th anniversary at the 23. of May 2009 in Pribylina. Instead of visiting the World Championship in Bratislava at 9-11. Oct.2009 in Bratislava we will join the ARBA show in Chicago with a National Special of the Club at Le Roy Oakes Forest Preserve, Saint Charles.

If you own a Slovensky Cuvac, please be helpful and make contact to the Club!

HELLO LIZ. I TRYED THE TRANSLATOR FROM ENGLIST TO SLOVAK.......WOW, THE TRANSLATIONS WERE VERY BAD, SOMETIMES COMPLETLY INCORRECT. SOME SHORT VERY PLAIN SENTENCES TRANSLATED COMPLETLY INCORRECT. LIKE "WE WILL LEAVE AT 8PM." TRANSLATED AS " I'M ON VACATION FOR 8 HOURS NOW". I HOPE IT WORKS BETTER IN DIFFERENT LANGUAGES.

Does Oprah have a Cuvac? Shelie and I want to come to the big 50th anniversay show - now where is it exactly? We also want to know about showing? Can we go to local shows? Do we need a professional handler? We are having soooo much fun with Dara.

By Dana Hartman on Sun, 28 Dec 2008 17:41:25 GMT
Dana is my new mom's name and my name is Dara, in case some of you are confused about our similar names. Interested in learning about showing. Can we enter local dog shows and how do we get a listing of events?

It's become quite cold, wet, damp with lots of wonderful mud here in the Virginia moutains and oh how I love this kind of weather. A close friend of the master, Charles, visits here from town and she is off to Budapest and environs in a few months and, no disrespect to the master, but I wish I were able to go too. Now, my elderly mate, Dubina, she has no interest in tripping to Europe. Too cold for her I think. We will see wind chills up here near zero tomorrow and I do hope I get to spend some outdoors.

Scott, thanks for your mail. We are happy to get contact to you! Please start to think more about breeding your Anna - Olivia! She is a wonderful sweet female with a great bloodline for USA. To have a litter is a lot of work, but more an enjoyment, than work. And a great adventure for your kid. There are several people, they started breeding in United States and each one will tell you, what to do. The Club has weekly people, they ask for a SC. To be organized in this way, it will be much more easier, to find the right families for our beloved breed. Your next step to know is: what are the hips of Anna like. A pre-x-ray with 9-12 months is helpful. In Slowakia they do the x-ray with 12 months. This is not allowed in USA. The OFA make the certification with 24 months. If you want to get contact to other breeders, let us know! STDCOA President: Elisabeth M Pisula slovenskycuvacusa@gmail.com Vice President: Phil Ford wahoo55@verizon.net

Hi, i am new to this site, and just got my first SC. Some background on me, I am an American that has lived in Slovakia for the last 5 years, and first encountered the SC a few years back. As I am a dog person, and not having one for past five years, i really missed one, so the family decided it was time to get one, and after talking to various breeders in Slovakia and doing some research, we decided on getting a SC. Pup is currently four months old and Female. (see above picture) So far, all is going ok with the pup, and we have been spending a lot of time socializing her. As my work assignment will most probably be taking me back to the States in next year or so, the SC will also be joining us back in the States. I never thought about breeding a dog before, but in the event she is able, how difficult is it to breed them? I enjoy a companion dog, but would like an honest opinion on how difficult this process is and what are the odds all the pups will find homes. I am a firm believer in no puppy mills, and getting dogs "fixed" as the world already has an abundance of unwanted dogs. One of the only reasons I would consider a litter is to support the population of SC in the USA. Lastly, i do give you alot of credit in trying to revive this "lost" breed of dog, and as long as I am living over here, if anyone would like some help on anything feel free to contact me. Thanks for reading
